About This Area
Backus, where history meets nature! Camp, fish, hike, swim, relax in the great outdoors – all just minutes north of the lakeside communities of Port Rowan and Long Point. The park offers 149 campsites and two cabins across five campground areas. Experience history first-hand by exploring the Backhouse Historic Site., The historic site proudly features the Backhouse Grist Mill which was built in 1798 and is designated a national historic site. Paired with the mill is the Backus Homestead, a rare octagonal one room schoolhouse and a collection of local heritage buildings. We are excited to announce that have begun a revitalization project on the exhibition within the incredibly popular Conservation Education Centre. We look forward to the grand opening in 2023. Backus Heritage Conservation Area is owned and operated by Long Point Region Conservation Authority.
