Old Baldy Conservation Area

News & Blog / Old Baldy Conservation Area

Looking for a different kind of adventure? If you love hiking and rock climbing, Old Baldy Conservation Area might be the perfect spot for a beautiful day outside.

The conservation area has three short trails: Main Trail (1.2 km), Bruce Trail – Main Trail (1.4 km) and Bruce Trail – Side Trail (0.6 km). A 15-minute hike from the parking lot will lead you through open fields and forests to the edge of the Niagara Escarpment overlooking Beaver Valley and the Village of Kimberley.

Past the beautiful panoramic views, there is a trail leading down to the base of the escarpment where you can find over 100 bolted climbing routes from beginner to expert. Many of the routes are for moderate to advanced sport and traditional climbers, with most of them starting at the 5.10 level or higher.

If rock climbing isn’t your thing, don’t worry! You can still spend some time hiking the trails. One of our favourite parts of Old Baldy were the amazing views you can see from the top of the escarpment, 200 metres above Beaver Valley. Pack a lunch and sit on the top of the cliff overlooking the farms and woodland below.

Nestled on the scenic Niagara Escarpment, Old Baldy Conservation Area is a great place for a hiking and rock climbing adventure. Pack your rope, hiking boots and helmet, and get ready for a fun day out admiring the breathtaking views.
